WHAT IS A COOLCATION?

A summer holiday without hunting for shade

A coolcation is a summer holiday spent somewhere pleasantly cool. Instead of escaping the heat into an air-conditioned hotel room, you come to where summer is just right by default: crisp fell air, bright nights and nature right outside your door. At Suomu the sun doesn't scorch – it simply shines, even at midnight.

Why a coolcation at Suomu?

Nightless night

From early June to mid-July the sun barely sets. You can start an evening hike up the fell at ten in the evening – there is light all the way.

Cool nights, great sleep

Nights cool down comfortably even in the warmest weeks. No air conditioning needed – just open a window and let the fell air do the rest.

Europe's last wilderness

Eastern Lapland has space: trails, mires, fells and silence for weeks. On a hike you are more likely to meet a reindeer than another person.

Safe nature

No dangerous animals or poisonous plants to watch out for on the trails. Lapland's nature is safe even for families with small children.

Everyman's rights

In Finland you may roam freely, camp temporarily and enjoy the landscape almost anywhere – as long as you respect homes and cultivated land.

Endless berry grounds

Bilberries, lingonberries and cloudberries ripen from midsummer to autumn. The mires and heaths around Suomu are a forager's paradise – and picking is free.

THINGS TO DO

The best of a cool summer

In summer Suomu is a ski resort without the queues: the fell, the lakes and the trails are almost all yours.
